A study of 48 undergraduates indicated that participants low in cognitive complexity tend to be acquiescent and to have mothers whose childrearing attitudes indicated their rejection of the mothering role. Measures of the students’ perceptions of their mothers’ child-rearing practices did not increase the variance accounted for in cognitive complexity.
