Author Guidelines

Chinese version of this text: 中文版

The format for articles published in SBP Journal follows the recommendations of the American Psychological Association (APA) Publication Manual (6th ed.) The APA Publication Manual is available online at http://www.apastyle.org/manual/ and can be found in most institutional libraries.

Ensure that your manuscript files conform to our formatting requirements:

  • A separate cover letter contains the postal and email contact details (in both English and the author’s native language) of the corresponding author, and email and affiliation details for any coauthors.
  • The main file (Word document format) contains no identifying author information.
  • Length limits: The title is at most 12 words, the abstract is at most 150 words, and the main text (excluding the title, abstract, tables, and figures) is at most 6,000 words.
  • Appropriate measures of effect size (partial eta squared, Cohen’s d, r2 coefficient of determination, confidence intervals) are included, in addition to p values.
  • Spellings are in their US English forms, as found in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.
  • The level of English expression is high. Nonnative English speakers have had their manuscript edited (preferably by a professional editing service) prior to submission.
  • The literature is current, with the majority of works having been published no more than 5 years ago.
  • Tables and/or figures are located at the end of the manuscript, following the References.
  • All citations have a matching entry in the references list, and vice versa.

Prior to publication, all manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using iThenticate CrossCheck software, to verify the originality of written work. CrossCheck compares submissions against millions of published, scholarly works, and billions of webpages.

Publication Costs

If your paper is accepted, part of the cost of publication in SBP Journal, i.e., detailed subediting, formatting and layout, copyediting and proofreading, printing, and shipping, is shared with the author(s) concerned. The publication share of the cost for authors is US$379 per printed page.

It is always to the advantage of authors to achieve a concise and direct writing style. This increases the article’s impact in the scientific world and can minimize the author publication cost requirement. Authors are advised to carefully edit their articles to reduce repetitive and unnecessary material that can otherwise impact on readability. Substantial reductions in length (and associated cost) can often be achieved without any loss of scientific rigor.

To obtain a rough estimate of printed page length, note that there is space for approximately 400 words or equivalent per page. Allowance must be made for title and abstract (0.8 or 4/5 of a page), tables, and figures.

If authors do not have all the required funds (i.e., applicable grants from institutional or other funding sources) to meet the total cost, it is possible to apply for a small journal subsidy. As a nonprofit journal, SBP Journal uses some funds from subscriptions to assist authors in this situation. Please write to the Managing Editor at the time of acceptance if you want to apply for the subsidy.

Complimentary copies of the journal issue for each of the authors will be sent to the corresponding author immediately following publication. In addition, at the same time as the article becomes available on the SBP Journal and IngentaConnect websites, an electronic copy is emailed to the corresponding author for scholarly dissemination. The copyrights to such articles remain the property of SBP Journal. Airmail postage and handling is free to the author(s).
