Author Guidelines

Chinese version of this text: 中文版

The format for articles published in Social Behavior and Personality: an international journal follows the recommendations of the American Psychological Association (APA) Publication Manual – 6th edition. The APA Publication Manual is available online at and can be found in most institutional libraries.

Submit the following:

  • A Word document containing no identifying author information, of not more than 6,000 words (excluding the title, abstract, tables, and figures).
  • A separate cover letter containing the contact details (postal and email) of the corresponding author, and email and affiliation details for any coauthors. Please give the postal address for the corresponding author in the author’s native language as well as in English.
  • A title of preferably no more than 12 words in length.
  • An abstract of 120–150 words, conforming to the style of the American Psychological Association guidelines. English translations of any works in the reference list that were published in another language. Tables and/or figures at the end of the manuscript, following the References.
  • Spellings in their US English forms, as found in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

All manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using iThenticate, to verify the originality of written work. iThenticate checks submissions against millions of published, scholarly works, and billions of webpages.

Publication Costs

If your paper is accepted, part of the cost of publication in SBP Journal, i.e., detailed subediting, formatting and layout, initial proofing, printing, and shipping, is shared with the author(s) concerned. The publication share of the cost for authors, as of 1st January 2016, is US$379 per printed page.

It is always to the advantage of authors to achieve a concise and direct writing style. This increases the article’s impact in the scientific world. Moreover, it can minimize the author publication cost requirement. Authors are advised to carefully edit their articles to reduce repetitive and unnecessary material which can otherwise impact on readability. Often substantial reductions in length (and associated cost) can be achieved without any loss of scientific rigor.

To obtain a rough estimate of printed page length, note that there is space for approximately 400 words or equivalent per page. Allowance must be made for title and abstract (0.8 or 4/5 of a page), tables, and figures.

If authors do not have all the required funds (i.e., from applicable grants, institutional or other funding) to meet the total cost, it is possible to apply for a small journal subsidy. As a nonprofit journal, SBP Journal uses some funds from subscriptions to assist authors in this situation. Please write to the Managing Editor at the time of acceptance if you want to apply for this.

Complimentary copies of the journal issue for each of the authors will be sent to the corresponding author immediately following publication. In addition, upon the article's placement on our website, an electronic (PDF) copy will be emailed to the corresponding author for scholarly dissemination. The copyrights to such articles remain the property of SBP Journal. Airmail postage and handling is free to the author(s).
