Articles published in SBP Journal follow the guidelines in the APA Publication Manual (7th ed.), which is available online at https://apastyle.apa.org/ and can be found in most institutional libraries. We use US English spelling, as found in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

A template showing recommended paper structure can be downloaded here.

Please follow these basic guidelines to presenting your manuscript:

  • The main manuscript file should contain no identifying author information. Instead, provide a separate cover letter containing the names, affiliations, contributions, and email addresses of all authors. Include any conflicts of interest, funding sources, a data availability statement, and other acknowledgments you would like to show.
  • Word document format: Our preferred style is 12-point Times New Roman font, with 1.5 spacing. Recommended title length is ~12 words, the abstract ~150 words, and the full text maximum is 8,000 words. Give a minimum of four keywords to assist with discoverability of the published article.
  • The level of English expression should be high. We encourage nonnative English speakers to have had their manuscript edited (preferably by a professional editing service) prior to submission.
  • Prepare three to five short sentences highlighting the main findings of your research, to appear as Article Highlights for readers of the published article. More information and an example previously published by SBP can be downloaded here.
  • Ensure that ethical considerations have been followed in your research (especially regarding privacy and consent) and include full statements about ethics approval and voluntary participation and consent of participants.
  • All authors AND coauthors must have a registered login, click here to register.
  • Please provide names, email addresses, and affiliations for 3 potential reviewers.

iThenticate

Prior to publication, all manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using iThenticate software to verify the originality of written work. iThenticate compares submissions against millions of published, scholarly works, and billions of webpages.

SBP Journal encourages authors to share or make available any data supporting the findings presented in their paper, if it is ethically appropriate to do so. This benefits the research community and increases the discoverability and credibility of your work.

We suggest authors deposit data in a recognized data repository (e.g., Open Science Framework, Figshare) that provides a DOI and has a long-term preservation plan. Authors are also encouraged to provide a data availability statement along with their submission – an example can be found in our template.

Part of the cost of papers accepted for publication in SBP Journal (i.e., detailed subediting, formatting and layout, copyediting and proofreading, and digital archiving) is shared with the author(s) concerned. The author share of the publication cost is US$569 per 500 words (or part thereof). The word count includes the title, abstract, keywords, article highlights, author information, main text, references, and tables/figures. Payment is required within 4 weeks of final acceptance to ensure efficient processing.

We value our long-term connections with authors and mark collaboration milestones by applying a 5% discount to the publication costs for an author’s fifth paper, a 10% discount upon publication of a tenth paper, and so on for each subsequent paper in multiples of five. Unclaimed discounts are applicable retroactively to new submissions by authors who have already published five or more papers; contact [email protected] to inquire. This discount will be applied to the invoice total after any journal subsidies are approved.

It is always to the advantage of authors to achieve a concise and direct writing style. This increases the article’s impact in the scientific world and can minimize the author publication cost requirement. Authors are advised to carefully edit their articles to reduce repetitive and unnecessary material that can otherwise impact on readability. Substantial reductions in length (and associated cost) can often be achieved without any loss of scientific rigor.

Immediately following publication, all authors receive 6 months of complimentary access to our database so that they can download and share their own article, as well as searching our full archive of 6,000+ published works. They can also extend their personal access to a full year for only US$79 – a special offer for authors only.

If you have any further queries, please contact us.

If authors would like advance online publication (a “preprint”) of their manuscript, we offer this service through Ingenta Connect Fast Track. A PDF proof can be finalized and available to view on Ingenta within two months of acceptance. Preprint articles are available open access and have active DOIs that transfer automatically to the later official publication within a journal issue. Authors can request this at any time after acceptance by writing to the Editors.

Please note the following:
  • The publication invoice must be paid in full, as well as a US$400 administration fee.
  • Using this service does not result in early publication on Clarivate/SSCI.
