A sample of 236 16-to 19-year old women completed the Eysenck neuroticism scale and rated their perceptions of how desirable British society in general considers the items of the Bem scale of femininity for men and for women. The data demonstrate a relationship between neuroticism and the tendency to emphasise greater differentiation between the cultural stereotypes of men and women.
