The significant others of 641 Nepalese secondary school children are reported according to gender and school grade level and location (rural or urban). Unlike findings from other cultures "father" was of similar salience to "mother", and "teacher" was of importance to about half the sample. These trends were stronger in the rural areas where traditional Hindu values are strongest.
