Most beauty researchers have demonstrated advantages accruing to the beautiful person. In this research the effects of social perceptions of differential perception of beauty are examined; specifically, does one’s philosophy of human nature affect perceptions of beauty? Sixty-two men and women rated 10 passport pictures on a 5-point Likert scale from very ugly to very beautiful. They also completed Wrightsman’s (1974) Philosophies of Human Nature Scale. Positive correlations were obtained for 4 of the 6 subscales.
