Fear of missing out and privacy concerns contribute to enterprise social media fatigue and work exhaustion
Main Article Content
This research investigated the dual nature of enterprise social media by examining its negative implications within organizational settings. Positioned within the stressor–strain–outcome model, this study examined fear of missing out (FOMO) and privacy concerns as stressors contributing to enterprise social media fatigue and its subsequent effect on work exhaustion. Through an empirical survey involving 352 employees utilizing enterprise social media for work, the results of partial least squares data analysis revealed a positive effect of FOMO and privacy concerns on enterprise social media fatigue, which, in turn, led to heightened work exhaustion. We also found that enterprise social media fatigue mediated the relationship between FOMO and work exhaustion. This research enhances understanding of the dark side of enterprise social media and contributes valuable insights into the intricate interplay of psychological stressors and organizational outcomes in the context of enterprise social media use.
