Public attitudes and viewing intention toward digital human avatars in legal education
Main Article Content
We examined the use of digital human avatars in legal education, focusing on public attitudes and viewing intention, along with the potential predictive effect of legal event characteristics, artificial-intelligence-related experience, and demographic factors. Partnering with the largest chain law firm in China, we recruited 789 clients who were visiting the firm for a consultation. The participants indicated their attitude and viewing intention toward explanatory videos featuring digital human avatars encountered in various legal scenarios. The results showed the respondents had a positive attitude toward digital avatars in legal education but low viewing intention. Legal event characteristics did not predict either attitude or viewing intention. However, people with more artificial-intelligence-related experience and those with higher monthly incomes had a more positive attitude and higher viewing intention. Theoretical and practical contributions are discussed.
