Kate Nuttall
Managing Editor

Kate has worked in the global publishing industry for 15 years. Her skills include strategic publishing, publication and content development, book and journal publishing, journal management, people management and leadership, marketing and communications. She has a BA in Publishing with English from Loughborough University, UK, 2005. She currently lives in Auckland with her husband and son where they enjoy the outdoors and beautiful beaches the North Island has to offer.

Keren Segal
Associate Editor

Keren holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Otago, New Zealand. Her thesis examined the role of possessions in providing a sense of literal and symbolic immortality. She also studied the effects of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake on residents' sense of identity (Segal, K., Jong, J., & Halberstadt, J. (2018). The fusing power of natural disasters: An experimental study. Self and Identity17(5), 574-586). Keren holds a BA in Psychology and an MA in Sociology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, where she also taught qualitative research methods in teachers’ continuing education programs at the School of Education. She has worked as a dialogue group facilitator in encounter groups of Palestinian and Jewish-Israeli youth. Keren lives in Dunedin with her family and enjoys raising her two daughters—as well as her small veggie garden and several happy chickens—and cooking and baking vegan food.


Ana Stojanov
Associate Editor

Ana joined the team in 2020 as an Associate Editor. Originally from Macedonia, now she lives in Dunedin, New Zealand. She holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Otago. Her thesis examined the relationship between perceived lack of control and conspiracy theory beliefs and the resulting findings have been published in peer reviewed journals. Before moving to Dunedin, she worked as a Project Coordinator facilitating educational reforms in Macedonia. She enjoys writing, cooking, hiking and learning new skills such as tap dancing.  


Suzi Brown
IT Manager

Suzi has worked in various IT roles for SBP Journal since 2000. Now IT Manager, she maintains the journal’s online presence, keeping up with the latest cutting-edge technological advances, including implementing the change from paper-based publishing to an entirely online system. Suzi has qualifications and experience in information technology, hardware and software, network systems, web design and maintenance, help desk services, and advanced use of software applications. She lives in Palmerston North, New Zealand, and has two adult daughters. Her interests include technology, reading, gardening, hula hooping, leadlight design and construction, and arts and crafts.

Kelly Baildon
Publishing Editor

Kelly joined the SBP Journal team in 2020 as an Editorial Associate. With a Certificate in Legal Executive Studies, she spent over 10 years working at law firms before moving into the publishing world. She lives in Lower Hutt, New Zealand with her husband and two young daughters. Kelly spends her free time volunteering, reading, baking, and enjoying her local bush walks.


Leisha Gomez
Publishing Editor

Leisha joined the SBP Journal team in 2020 as an Editorial Assistant. With a Certificate in Business Administration she has worked in various roles including human resources, accounts management, and allied health. Leisha is originally from Australia but has spent the last seven years living in Mexico. She spends her free time volunteering, traveling the world, and exploring the beautiful cenotes (natural sinkholes) of the Yucatan Peninsula.


Francisco (Paco) Ángel
IT Assistant

Paco joined the SBP team in 2020 as an IT Assistant. Paco has worked with website and web app development for small, medium, and large companies. Over the years he has worked in different sectors such as real estate, digital marketing, and tourism. He is now learning new technologies to increase web security, design, and performance. Outside of work, his interests include the internet of things, playing the guitar, and reading.  



Dorothy Pilkington

Dorothy began working for SBP Journal as a proofreader and copyeditor in 2001. She has a BA degree in languages and history from Victoria University of Wellington and a Diploma in Education from Massey University. She has had a long voluntary involvement with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (now Heritage New Zealand) and in 2006 received the New Zealand State Honour of Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of this work. Dorothy has a special interest in linguistics and the teaching of English as a second language.

Sarah Krivan 

Sarah has worked for SBP Journal since 2007 as a copyeditor and was also responsible for the journal’s project and marketing work as Publications Consultant (2009–2012), Marketing Manager (2013–2017), and Project Manager (2017–2018). Sarah obtained a Bachelor of Science in 2009 (Psychology major), and a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies in 2010 (Management major), both from Massey University. She lives in Palmerston North, New Zealand.


Katharine Samuel

Katharine worked as an Interlibrary loan librarian in Information Services at the University of Canterbury (Christchurch, New Zealand) central library for 20 years before retiring in 2009. She has a library qualification and a BA (Canterbury) in Art History. Katharine has two daughters, and enjoys tramping, reading, travel, history, track and field athletics, sociology, concerts, theatre, art, and opera.


Lesley Aitken

Lesley currently lives in the central North Island, but has a nomadic lifestyle with her husband working in locum ministry. She has worked in education for over 40 years, including: secondary teaching in maths, English, and physical education; tertiary tutoring in distance education; and supporting students in Auckland Prison. Life outside of work involves boating, skiing, tennis, indoor bowls, and quieter pursuits such as reading and dressmaking.

Lewis Fletcher

Lewis joined the SBP Journal team as a copyeditor in 2020. He received a BA(Hons) in English from the University of Canterbury in 2017, and is currently working towards a Masters in English. He has worked as a marker, research assistant, and as a writing tutor for Civil Engineering students. His interests include reading, history, cinema, music, and cooking. Originally from the UK, he now lives in Christchurch, New Zealand.


Support Team


Philippa Proctor 

Based in Palmerston North, New Zealand, Philippa has worked as a typesetter for close to 25 years, bringing journals, newsletters, and manuscripts to print ready stage. Her current portfolio includes all of these forms, including the typesetting for SBP Journal for over 20 years. In 2008, she set up her own venture, Pip’s Pre-Press Services, accepting casual, short-term, and long-term typesetting contracts. In 2014 she began working full-time at Ezibuy as part of the Creative team, in addition to continuing her work with SBP Journal and spending time with her three teenaged children. 

Fanchao (Franco) Meng
Chinese Translator

Fanchao (Franco) Meng has worked for SBP Journal since 2013 as a Chinese translator. He is responsible for monitoring the SBP social media account on Sina Weibo, and translation of journal documents including newsletters and marketing materials.  Fanchao obtained a Bachelor of Animal Science in 2010 and a Master of Communication in 2013, majoring in Photo Media.  He is interested in traveling, swimming, music, art, and photography. He lives in Perth, Western Australia.
