The intent of the present study is to examine the relationship between egocentrism and depressive symptoms in young adults. One hundred and fifty-two undergraduate students (53 males, 99 females) from the University of Ottawa (Canada), whose ages ranged from 18 to 25 years, completed the Adolescent Egocentrism and Sociocentrism Scale (AES; Enright, Skukla, & Lapsley, 1980) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI; Beck & Beamesterfer, 1974). As predicted, young adults with high egocentrism showed significantly more depressive symptoms than those with low egocentrism. Results are discussed in light of the literature on depression in young people.
