Alex Cheyne
Managing Editor

Alex has worked for SBP since 2006. Originally employed as a copyeditor, she has been the point of contact for authors and reviewers as Operations Coordinator (2009-2013) and currently as Managing Editor (2013– ). Her role involves overseeing journal operations and the delivery of each journal issue. She also manages the flow of manuscripts through the publication process. Alex obtained a BA majoring in English Literature from Massey University in 2006. She has previous experience in conference management, reference work editing, and academic assessment. Her interest in literature continues, as well as in New Zealand and world history, and – specific to social psychology – she particularly enjoys studying cross-cultural communication and personality types. She lives in Hermosillo, Mexico, with her husband, Jason.

Suzi Brown
IT Consultant

Suzi has worked as IT Consultant for SBP since 2000. She has been involved in the journal’s online presence, keeping up with the latest cutting edge technological advances. Suzi feels privileged to have been part of these changes since 1990. One of these changes has been implementing the change from posted paper manuscript submission, to emailed manuscript submission, and now online manuscript submission, and online reviews. She has qualifications and experience in Information Technology, hardware and software, network systems, web design and maintenance, help desk services, and advanced use of software applications. She lives in Palmerston North, New Zealand, and has two adult daughters. Her interests include technology, reading, gardening, leadlight design and construction, and arts and crafts.

Sarah Jones
Marketing Manager and Copyeditor

Sarah has worked for SBP since 2007 as a copyeditor, taking on the additional roles of Marketing Manager (2013– ) and Publications Consultant (2009–2012). She meets the journal’s marketing needs, monitors social media accounts, sends physical copies of journal issues, and assists the Managing Editor. Sarah obtained a Bachelor of Science in 2009 (Psychology major), and a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies in 2010 (Management major), both from Massey University. She is interested in traveling, reading, writing poetry and is a regular contributor to a vegetarian food blog. Having lived in Perth, Western Australia, from 2012-2013, she now lives in Palmerston North, New Zealand, with her partner, Fabian.

Philippa Proctor
Typesetter

Based in Palmerston North, New Zealand, Philippa has worked as a typesetter for close to 25 years bringing journals, newsletters, and manuscripts to print ready stage. Her current portfolio includes all of these forms, including the typesetting for SBP Journal. Philippa has been working with Dr Stewart and his team for over 20 years. In 2008, she set up her own venture, Pip’s Pre-Press Services, accepting casual, short, and long term typesetting contracts. pipsprepress@inspire.net.nz


Dorothy Pilkington
Copyeditor

Dorothy began working for SBP as a proofreader and copyeditor in 2001. She has a BA degree in languages and history from Victoria University of Wellington and a Diploma in Education from Massey University. She has had a long voluntary involvement with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust and in 2006 received the New Zealand State Honour of Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of this work. Dorothy has a special interest in linguistics and the teaching of English as a second language.

Katharine Samuel
Copyeditor

Katharine worked as an Interlibrary loan librarian in Information Services at the University of Canterbury (Christchurch, New Zealand) central library for 20 years before retiring in 2009. She has a library qualification and a BA (Canterbury) in Art History. Katharine has two daughters, and enjoys tramping, reading, travel, history, track and field athletics, sociology, concerts, theatre, art, and opera.

Lesley Aitken
Copyeditor

Lesley currently lives in the central North Island, but has a nomadic lifestyle with her husband working in locum ministry. She has worked in education for over 40 years, including: secondary teaching in maths, English, and physical education; tertiary tutoring in distance education; and supporting students in Auckland Prison. Life outside of work involves boating, skiing, tennis, indoor bowls, and quieter pursuits such as reading and dressmaking.

Emily Duncan
Copyeditor

Emily joined the SBP team in 2012 having previously worked as a secondary school English and Drama teacher. She holds a BA in English, Theatre, and Film from Victoria University Wellington, a Graduate Diploma in Teaching from the Dunedin School of Education, and recently completed her Honours in English Literature at Massey University. Based in Dunedin, Emily is studying for her master’s degree in Theatre Studies at Otago University. She is also a produced playwright and a presenter/producer for a weekly community radio arts show.

Fanchao (Martin) Meng
Chinese translator

Fanchao (Martin) Meng has worked for SBP since 2013 as a Chinese translator. He is responsible for monitoring the SBP social media account on Sina Weibo, and translation of journal documents including newsletters and marketing materials.  Fanchao obtained a Bachelor of Animal Science in 2010 and a Master of Communication in 2013, majoring in Photo Media.  He is interested in traveling, swimming, music, art, and photography. He lives in Perth, Western Australia.
